Alice Springs is often considered the heart of Australia, lying almost at the nation's geographical centre.

'The Alice', as it is known, is the second largest town in Australia's Northern Territory and offers all the modern conveniences, comforts and diversions of a good-sized city. It has great shopping, bars, cafes, restaurants, live entertainment, a casino and a convention centre.

Tourism is a major industry. The town is a perfect base from which to explore the stunning MacDonnell Ranges, visit Uluru (Ayers Rock) or Kata Tjuta (the Olgas), fossick for gemstones and enjoy the vast unspoiled wonders of Australia's Red Centre.

Alice Springs has a diverse community made up of people from all over the world. The Indigenous presence here is strong - 20 per cent of the population are Indigenous Australians. The town boasts an excellent performing arts centre that hosts numerous national and international performers and local theatre companies.

The town hosts a major Masters Games event every two years, and residents love to play sport such as Australian Rules Football, soccer and cricket year-round. The town has an Olympic swimming pool and an 18-hole golf course that is rated as one of the top 10 desert courses in the world.

Alice Springs has 19 government and non-government schools and colleges, including two dedicated to Aboriginal students, and seven pre-schools.

A strong and healthy real estate industry prospers in Alice Springs, with an excellent range of houses, units and flats for sale or rent. Most rental houses and units are unfurnished.

Central Australia is mostly dry, with brilliant blue skies especially from April to September. Rainfall usually occurs in the hottest months from October to March.
